Eurovision: Liverpool keeps the flag flying
Liverpool gave Eurovision a heartfelt welcome – and it was just as welcoming to pro-EU campaigners who gave out tens of thousands of EU flags across the week.
Together, we also distributed 3,000 Rejoin March flyers promoting the next national demonstration in September (exact date coming soon!) and thousands of our Rejoin stickers, which people were literally queuing up to take!
The Daily Mail claimed it was a plot to "hijack" Eurovision – but the truth is that fans were delighted to meet rejoin campaigners.
We had many wonderful conversations with people who thanked us for being there. It was moving to see such levels of support among these massive crowds.
Dozens of activists came together for the flags effort from groups including Stay European, the National Rejoin March, Thank EU for the Music, Liverpool for Europe and more.
Brexit inquiry petition: final days
The campaign for a public inquiry into the impact of Brexit is stepping up the publicity this week as their parliamentary petition reaches its end date.
They are aiming for the petition, which has already sparked a debate in parliament, to reach 250,000 signatures to show the depth of support for the campaign.
The petition closes on Thursday 18 May. Please sign (if you haven't already) and share widely before then:
Give EU citizens the vote
One thing that has long massively skewed British politics is that more than 3 million EU citizens live here permanently but do not have the right to vote in parliamentary elections.
Now that debate has finally opened up – and from an unexpected direction, as the right for EU citizens to vote was included in a draft Labour manifesto.
This is a very significant development. The Brexit Tories are wailing about it, but that's just because excluding these voters has artificially propped up the Tory vote for so long.
We should grab this policy with both hands, defend it and aim to spread it to other parties too. Europeans who have made their homes here should have as much of a say in Britain's future as anyone else.
