It's seven days into Putin's war on Ukraine, but Kyiv is still standing. And now all of Europe is standing with them.
This week we have seen the attempt at a quick Russian win stopped in its tracks by determined Ukrainian resistance. Their courage has inspired the world.
Yet we have also seen heartbreaking images of the death and destruction Putin's invasion has caused, and tens of thousands of refugees fleeing the country.
The EU is completely united, bringing in highly effective sanctions on Russian banks and welcoming Ukrainian refugees. Yesterday the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted to make Ukraine a candidate EU member. What a shame it is that Britain is no longer in the room to stand with them.
These events also place into context the growth of Putin's influence in Britain over the last decade, including in the Tory party and the Brexit referendum, and the accompanying rise in online disinformation. Now is the time for the UK to break from the oligarchs once and for all, stop being a laundry for dirty money, and reunite with Europe.
