It's been a long time coming, but the taboo around mentioning Brexit in mainstream party politics is starting to fade away.
This week Tobias Ellwood, a Tory MP and critic of Boris Johnson, raised the prospect of the UK rejoining the EU single market to help tackle the cost of living crisis. This has sparked a long-overdue debate across the press and social media.
For Stay European, rejoining the EU fully is our aim and our campaign.
Rejoining the single market – which of course we also support – is just the minimum that any rational government would do. In other words, it's quite likely to happen soon after these Brexit Tories leave office.
Understanding this is the key to avoiding "Brexit has happened, can't reverse it" doom-and-gloom.
Brexit in its current form is entirely tied to this government. It is temporary, and not even fully implemented. Any government not made up of ultra-Brexiters will change course.
That is why we believe we must begin to plant the seeds of Rejoin right now, so that when these crucial moments come in the not-too-distant future, we have a Rejoin movement in full bloom.
The National Rejoin March
So what are we doing about it? The main focus of Stay European's work in the coming months is going to be the build up to the National Rejoin March.
We're proud to be an 'official partner' of the march and urge all supporters to attend.
There are also still plenty of volunteers needed as stewards/marshals, first aiders, transport coordinators and more. If you can volunteer, your contribution will be crucial to make sure the day is positive and family-friendly.
One march isn't going to get us to Rejoin, but it is a vital stepping stone in building a movement that can.
